The Beginning…

James embarked on his journey into joinery at age 16, apprenticing at a prestigious Georgian restoration firm. His appreciation for finely crafted furniture ignited a passion, driving him to establish his own joinery business. Working tirelessly over seven years, he earned his Master Joiner status at a leading London bespoke joinery firm, steeped in heritage and tradition.

Venturing abroad, James found inspiration in Scandinavian furniture during his tenure as 'Head of Restoration' in Melbourne for a renowned Danish furniture importer. Upon returning to the UK in 2012, he founded Elliott & Tate, specializing in sourcing and restoring vintage Danish furniture by iconic designers.

As demand grew, Elliott & Tate evolved to include Tate's Joinery, meeting the needs of interior designers and homeowners with bespoke creations. Supported by his partner Dulcie, James expanded the business, adding a new workshop in South London and assembling a team of experienced joiners.

Today, Tate's Joinery boasts a dedicated team and a state-of-the-art workshop in South East London, capable of handling projects of any scale. James's journey epitomizes the pursuit of dreams, fueled by determination and supported by a committed team. Their story is one of evolution and creativity, driving them to continue pushing boundaries and crafting remarkable spaces.
